    Project Description

The Mystic Museum of Art in Mystic, CT hosted an exhibition dedicated to renowned American painter and illustrator Norman Rockwell, showcasing 323 of his iconic magazine covers. Given the extensive time span of Rockwell’s work, the museum sought to enhance the exhibit by installing a timeline around the perimeter of the gallery, highlighting significant historical events that occurred during the years his covers were published.

Executing this installation was a complex undertaking. While the design itself was relatively straightforward, the installation required meticulous planning. Our team conducted multiple measurements, double- and triple-checking calculations to ensure the timeline fit precisely within the gallery space. It was critical to align the dates on the timeline accurately with the corresponding Rockwell magazine covers displayed below, adjusting start and end points across decades as needed.

Another challenge involved accommodating architectural obstacles such as smoke alarms, exit signs, and pipes, which required strategic design modifications to maintain visual continuity. Despite these challenges, this project became one of the most ambitious installations I have worked on. The final result exceeded expectations, receiving overwhelming praise from both the museum and visitors. The success of the installation even led to an extension of the exhibition’s duration to allow more guests to experience it.
